Dundee Spanish Civil War March
Posted by alangdundee on October 12th, 2008
A parade through Dundee to Albert Square to mark the rededication of the City’s Memorial to those who died in the Spanish Civil War, and the unveiling of a new plaque.
The parade was attended by about 200. Banners included the local FBU and PCS banners as well as SSP, Solidarity and CPB. Jack Jones, the 95 year old former leader of the TGWU, who fought in Spain, unveiled the new plaque.
This ceremony was followed by a public meeting where former Fire Brigades Union leader Ken Cameron spoke along with the Spanish Consul and a librarian from the National Library of Scotland who maintains the Spanish Civil War collection.
An exhibition entitled Dundee and the Spanish Civil War will be running in Dundee’s Wellgate Library from October 7th – 25th.
